Last week we launched our latest kids storybook app: Paddington Bear. We were thrilled when it was featured on the front page of The Guardian Online and made its way onto the iTunes “What’s Hot” list.

Our goal was making an app that tells the story of Paddington Bear in a compelling way for touch-screen readers, whilst remaining faithful to the charming reading experience that has made Paddington a national treasure.

An iPad that Paddington might feel more comfortable with!

The Paddington Bear App is available worldwide on the Apple App store, for iPhone, iTouch and iPad. If you’ve bought the app, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Tweet @boldcreative and use the hashtag #iPaddington

Demos research backs Digital Disruption http://www.boldcreative.co.uk/en/rss/?news_id=44 http://www.boldcreative.co.uk/en/rss/?news_id=44 Fri, 30 Sep 2011 00:00 GMT News “Truth, Lies and the Internet: A Report into Young People’s Digital Fluency” by think tank Demos was launched today and can be downloaded for free here.

Bold Creative has been working in partnership with Demos on our Digital Disruption project. We’re delivering digital tools and on the ground training that respond directly to the issues identified in their report. Watch some footage from Digital Disruption workshops featured in the BBC report here.

Digital Disruption was born out of a 3-year prototype project with young people in Mile End, East London that focused specifically on researching and responding to online propaganda. Check out the prototype tools here.

We are now in the next phase of the project, funded by Nominet Trust, which has seen Digital Disruption roll out nationally. Through workshops with young people, we’ve designed and built a suite of digital tools and a youth-facing brand that will launch later this year. Watch this space!

Small Creature, BIG TOPIC http://www.boldcreative.co.uk/en/rss/?news_id=43 http://www.boldcreative.co.uk/en/rss/?news_id=43 Thu, 15 Sep 2011 00:00 GMT News

How do you help a child manage their emotions when dealing with the loss of a loved one? This is the question we asked ourselves when working with production company Hat-Trick Design to bring the beautiful illustrations of Rebecca Sutherland to life for the British Heart Foundation.

Bold is proud to present The Small Creature animation, a further development of Hat-Trick Design and the British Heart Foundation’s award-winning bereavement support materials for children.  The Small Creature explores the difficult and often challenging topic of bereavement with a unique approach.

Our story follows the journey of a small creature that has discovered the loss of his best friend ‘Bird’. On his journey Small Creature experiences feelings of anger, fear and sadness as he strives to recover what he has lost. The film aims to help bereaved children identify and articulate some of the emotions that they may be feeling. This reassures them that these feelings are valid and that it’s ok for people to feel different things and cope in different ways.

The Small Creature is an optimistic yet sensitive approach to this difficult subject. TV & radio personality Gloria Hunniford recorded the narration for the story and said the following about the project:

“It can be utterly heartbreaking trying to support a child who has lost a loved one. That’s where projects like this wonderful Small Creature animation can help. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, guardian, carer - you can sit down with your child and watch this beautiful film.”

How can our young people do this to us? Where is the political agenda? Oh please…we’re focusing on mindless thuggish behaviour: the result, not the cause. It’s a tiresome perspective – as if we, the society that is responsible for raising them, are blameless.

So how did they suddenly transform themselves from the passive aggrieved unemployed into a proactive, well-organised army of rampant materialists?
